Prime Minister.

Sir,
I have the honour to first of all forgive me writing to you personally.
y reason for this Sir is that you are the only person who could act in the undermentioned matter.
I am one of those unfortunate P.0.W. who lost all in the war in Hong Kong. I have seen a printed notice which gives certain directions to obtain the help as
passed by Act of Parliament (Far Eastern Chattels (Private)). One condition is that we must return to U.K. That prohibits me from getting anything, due to the fact that the wife after three big operations, and now almost
bed ridden, and myself heart trouble, are not fit to travel. Wife 72, self 77 in four months..
I served in the Royal Artillery 22 years, saw service in South Africa 1899 to June 1900, then went to relieve Pekin 1900 to 1902, then served in 1914 to 1918, then Hong Kong; also did night fighting in the last war.
The contents of my 9 room house were valued at 69.000 dollars.
I have asked the Secretary of the Far Eastern Chattels if they can waive this particular requirement.
I know perfectly well that you are the only person who can alter the Act so as to be able to do this.
I am in dire distress, not allowed old age pension, not in the country long enough, even if we went home Sir we would be an encumbrance and no use to any one.
